3rd Annual 80s Reunion Recap

The 3rd Annual ‘80s Brothers Get Together held on Saturday, July 22, 2024 was a success! Mother Nature smiled on us and provided a beautiful day to enjoy ourselves at Doggies Pub’s outdoor area. And I know, it will always be the ‘Skellar for me too.  The fun afternoon lasted late into evening.  Most of the group relocated to Pickles (a newer place next to Zeno’s), after a stumble prevented entry into Café 210 West. For some of the hardier brothers the night ended at the Phyrst (which is much cleaner than it was during our time at State). No arrests were reported.

It was fun to share stories from our sometimes misguided youth at Dear Old State. But it seems all of us somehow became productive members of society. I’m not sure if it was because of or in spite of our days spent at 523 South Allen Street.  And no gathering would be complete without raising a glass to remember our brothers we’ve lost.

The man-miles award was a close call with Pat coming from Washington DC and Joey from Hartford CT, but I think Chris Allocco from Williamsburg VA via NYC was the winner.  The reverse man-miles award went to Jeff who lives in State College. Jeff also won the youngest brother award to my oldest brother award.  No pigs’ snouts or tails were kissed or harmed in the making of those awards.

3rd Annual 80s Reunion in State College - Chris Allocco ’84, Bob Dunston ’85, Owen Fishman ’85, Pat O’Connor ’83, Rod Miller ’89, Chris Casciato ’85, Tim Boyd ’83, Al Vladimir ’85, Tim Paulson ’87, Joey Kopetsky ’86, Jeff Damcott ’91, Paul Vassil ‘86

The “haven’t been back in a while” award went to Chris Allocco, who’s last trip to PSU was for the 1985 French Sewer Party at the house. Remember those? And as always, the “spending the most on PSU swag” award went to Owen. The employees at Lions Pride thank him for keeping them in business for another year.

If you haven’t been back in a while, State College, and PSU along with it, has definitely changed since the 1980’s, but it will always feel like home and remains our happy place. For those that haven’t been back in a while, consider making the trip. It will be worth the time to revisit the place that helped shape our lives.

The get together tradition will continue in 2024, with an eye towards the end of July again.  We will reach out via email, social media and word of mouth to let everyone know once the date is set. Thanks to Owen for being the driving force behind the get together. And thanks to everyone who made the pilgrimage to attend.

Thanks to Jeff and all those who continue to lend the Helping Hand to keep Omega Chapter alive and thriving. It is. And WE ARE…..
