We have been honored to call him our Brother. The condolences of Theta Chi’s extended worldwide family are offered to the family and friends of our deceased brother.
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of:
William H. Renton '46
Brother William H. Renton, Omega/Penn State ’46 passed to the Chapter Eternal on Monday, September 22, 2008.
Brother Renton served the Fraternity over many years as President of the National Board of Trustees from 1988 to 1992. (The National Board of Trustees is now called the Norwich Housing Corporation.) He also served as a member of the Grand Chapter and as and as a member of the Foundation Chapter. Brother Renton is a recipient of Theta Chi’s Distinguished Service Award, which is the highest award given for service to the Fraternity.
Brother Renton’s son, William D. Renton, Alpha Beta/Pittsburgh '77 reports that his father “passed away this morning after a long illness at the age of 84, at my sister's house, surrounded in love by his family.”
Brother Renton’s son also said, “As a child, our vacations were spent at various Theta Chi meetings and conventions across the country, and we were able to know his friends and Brothers such as Howard Alter, George Kilavos and many, many others. Dad served many years on the Grand Chapter and it was a source of joy to both him and Mom, and set an example of service for his children.”
Funeral services will be held at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Bel Air, MD at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2008.
