"A Boot Full of Memories", a historical novel based upon letters written by a participant in the Civil War, has recently been written David Douglas '76. The collection of 135 letters were written by Leonard Williams, a captain in the 2d South Carolina Cavalry, to his wife, Anna. Douglas is Williams' great-great grandson

Download write up from the Penn Stater - January/February 2004The letters were passed on to the captain's daughter, Susie, then to her son, Thomas Douglas, whose wife, Marian, kept them and took them with her when she went to live with Douglas, and his family. They passed to him when she died. "My wife told me I had to do this. I had to write a book about these letters," said Douglas, who has been a producer and director for NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J., since 1978. "Capt. Williams rode side by side with Jeb Stuart and looked Gen. Robert E. Lee in the eye", notes Douglas. "His letters span virtually the entire war and are most rare and unique in that this primary source material is written by the hand of a company-grade officer in the Confederate cavalry".
