It is with great sadness that we report the passing of:

Hugh MccLure ‘72

Hugh McClure of Abington, PA, beloved husband of Patricia Dixon McClure, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 with his family by his side, after a 14 year battle with Parkinson's. Hugh was born on June 12, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late Vernon Ince McClure and Margaret Wert McClure.

In addition to Patty, his wife of 46 years, Hugh is survived by his three sons; Rory D. McClure, Brian P. McClure, Collin C. McClure and his wife, Seniz Warner-McClure; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick M. and Becky McClure; and many treasured in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack McClure.

Hugh graduated from Ridley High School in 1968, where he played football and was team captain of the Ridley Raiders. Hugh graduated from Penn State University in 1972 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He maintained lifelong friendships with many of his brothers from Theta Chi fraternity. His fraternity friends sustained him with their visits, especially throughout his last year.

Hugh made his living as an insurance adjuster and operated his own adjusting firm, McClure and Company. He held designations including A.I.C. (Associate in Claims) and C.P.C.U. (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter). Hugh was very active in the insurance claims community. He served as president of PAIIA (Pennsylvania Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters) and was a member of The Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International, a fraternal, charitable organization for insurance industry professionals.

Aside from his business accomplishments, Hugh was active in coaching many of his sons' teams including t-ball, baseball, and flag football. He served as a Cub Scout den leader and assisted with countless Boy Scout activities. Hugh was a member of the Philadelphia Rugby Club from 1973-1978, and enjoyed many other sports including tennis, biking, fishing, downhill skiing and cross-country skiing. His favorite sports, however, were those he played in the backyard with his sons.

Hugh took an active role at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Abington, PA, serving on the vestry and property committee, and was the treasurer for many years. He gave much of his time to various activities at the church.

But above all, Hugh always made his loved ones his priority. He cherished holidays and celebrations with family, friends, and neighbors. He reminded us to enjoy the simpler pleasures in life and surround yourself with good people.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, St. Anne's Episcopal Church, where relatives and friends will be received from 9:00 AM – 10:45 AM. Interment will follow in St. Thomas' Whitemarsh Cemetery, Ft. Washington, PA.
