Twenty-Nine Return at Omega
by John A. Fay

  • Pennsylvania State College, Oct. 31. - Twenty-Nine brothers return in the fall. and after a long tedious rushing period of two weeks, Omega Chapter was richer by six pledges: Franklin H. Pritchard, Eric Academy High School; Thomas H. White, Stevrn School; Robert T. Corely, Rexborough; Barrett M. Sibley, Brockway; Samuel Baxter, Germantown; and Granville R. Evans, Bangor.

  • Dad’s Day, October 8, was a huge success. There were about fifty guests, and they all enjoyed the Theta Chi hospitality.

  • Alumni Day was October 22, and it was a real week-end, There were twenty of the alumni back, and everyone stayed up far into the night listening to the old grads’ stories, true and otherwise. House party will fall on the week-end of November 4, and promises to be a wonderful party. We clash on the gridiron with the University of the South and on the soccer field with Syracuse.

'Songs of Theta Chi' Off the Press
Fraternity spirit is developed in many ways, but always effectively through group singing. "Songs of Theta Chi," therefore, will make a valuable contribution to the life of the Fraternity.

Filled with fraternity songs, new and  old, and with the college airs most popular on the fifty campuses where Theta Chi is represented, "Songs of Theta Chi" comes from the printing press to fill its avowed purpose of "promoting good fellowship." Not only is it a collection that arouses justifiable pride, but it has been made thoroughly singable as the result of expert revision.

Three new songs will be found in the section "Songs of the Fraternity," and each promises to find instant favor. "Dream Girl of Theta Chi" is the product of two classmates of Alpha Iota Chapter (Indiana), Stuart Ludlow and Howard Batman, both '29. Words and music of "Theta Chi Love Song" were written by J. Winfield Hendry, Tau, '25, Both of the songs have appealing melody and express their love tribute in effective words. "A Friend in Any Circumstance" is another love song, only this time the tribute goes to mother instead of sweetheart. It was written by C. Eldon Jones, Alpha Mu (Iowa State), '28, in the prize contest sponsored by Omega Chapter for the best song dedicated to mothers, and will probably be featured at numerous Mother's Day affairs this coming May.

The preparation of the book has been in charge of a committee composed of Theodore Frank Fitch, Alpha Zeta, '22, Tolbert MacRae, Alpha Mu, '06, and George Starr Lasher, Alpha Gamma, '11, chairman. In revising the former edition of "Songs of Theta Chi," numerous changes were desirable in order to adapt the compositions to men's voices. These were decided upon by Professor MacRea, who is head of the Department of Music at Iowa State College, and Director Fitch, who is in charge of the University of Rochester Musical Clubs. As both of these men are directors of men's glee clubs they are ideally equipped for making the necessary analysis. Brother Fitch was chiefly responsible for the technical revision of the music, and the result is a book filled with excellent songs, written in suitable keys, and limited to the proper range of men's voices.

The volume of one hundred fifty pages is attractively bound in cloth, military red in color. The fraternity crest, title, and well designed border are stamped in white. A complete index is a decided convenience.

Copies of the "Songs of Theta Chi" can be purchased from the Executive Office, Theta Chi Fraternity, Broad Street Bank Building, Trenton, New Jersey, for $1.25 each, postpaid. When twelve or more are ordered to be shipped to one address, the price is $1 each.

Appropriately the collection of fraternity songs is headed by the official anthem, "Dear Old Theta Chi," written by F. W. Kurtz, Delta, '13, and C. C. Finch, Delta, '14. There follow, besides those already mentioned: Men Since Fifty-Six, W. W. Drummey, Beta, '16; Dear Theta Chi for You, Reuel S. Moore, Alpha Sigma, '21; Dear Theta Chi, Reuel S. Moore; Brother-hood of Theta Chi, George Starr Lasher, Alpha Gamma, '11, Emil Schoch; Brother-hood of Theta Chi, G. W. Brown, Epsilon, '21; Theta Chi Rouser, G. W. Brown, W. C.
