2018 GI Theta Chi - Benefiting the USO

Hello Brothers,

We hope you are all doing well the summer. We are still dedicated to our flagship philanthropy G.I. Theta Chi.

The Omega Chapter of Theta Chi at Penn State is working to raise funds for the United Service Organizations. Every year we host a fundraising event to raise money for the USO with the hopes of helping out the millions of veterans and their families as they transition back into their communities.

Growing Up is a Beautiful Thing. Let’s Fight for It!

saturdayafternoon_crager-41.jpg

In just two short weeks, the year-long efforts of more than 16,500 student volunteers and 25,000 alumni will culminate in a forty-six-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. For those forty-six hours, the Bryce Jordan Center will transform into a home of bright colors, endless energy, and unwavering support for families affected by childhood cancer.

From February 16-18, the Penn State community will once again join together to show what cancer cannot do. Since 1977, THON has raised more than $146 million for our sole beneficiary, Four Diamonds. THON’s contributions cover treatment costs for pediatric cancer patients at Penn State Children’s Hospital, ensuring that no family ever has to see a bill. Additionally, THON’s support funds innovative research, helping the worldwide cancer community in pursuit of a cure.

Join us in the fight against childhood cancer by making a gift today. With the help of our generous supporters, we will one day dance in celebration of a cure.

Make an impact in the life of a child today

THON was the very first student organization I became involved with here at Penn State.  My freshman year, I was on a Rules and Regulations committee, responsible for ensuring the safety of the Bryce Jordan Center.  Last year, I was responsible for the health and well-being of a dancer throughout the 46 hours as a Dancer Relations Committee Member, and I oversaw the fundraising efforts of my fraternity, Theta Chi, throughout the course of the year.

THON is the most incredible effort that college students convene to create, by far, with $146 million and counting raised since its inception, with all proceeds benefitting the Four Diamonds Fund, which provides monetary support for children with cancer at Hershey Medical as well as grants for research with the intention of finding better treatment/ eventually a cure for cancer.

Further, to mitigate any concerns you may have about where the money actually goes, I have done extensive research on this subject and can confirm that THON donates approximately 96% of funds received to Four Diamonds, with the remainder covering necessary costs incurred during THON weekend (it's run entirely on volunteers).  Four Diamonds itself is able to turn around and use approximately 91% of the funds it receives to directly benefit children, either through covering what insurance cannot, providing research grants, or paying people like music therapists to keep spirits high during difficult treatments.  Altogether, this comes out to .96 * .91 = a little more than 87 cents of each dollar donated directly impacting children, which is considered impressive in the fundraising community.

When you decide to support THON™, you become a partner in the ongoing fight against childhood cancer. As part of my organization benefitting THON, I am working alongside 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni to support more than 3,700 families at Penn State Children’s Hospital to one day end the fight against childhood cancer.  Since THON’s beginning in 1973, we have raised over $146 million dollars, For The Kids™!

This year, I am taking action in the fight against childhood cancer. Throughout the year, I am fundraising on behalf of my organization benefiting THON to offset the costs of treatment that insurance cannot cover, expenses that improve the welfare of kids, and fund critical research in pursuit of finding a cure. I am committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer as well as building lasting relationships with the Four Diamonds families, and it is my hope that one day every child has the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams.

Your contribution will fund innovative research that will not only enhance treatment for children in Pennsylvania but is also giving hope to childhood cancer patients worldwide! Together, with every student, volunteer, alumnus, donor, and supporter, we can spread awareness of THON’s mission across the country and throughout the world. With your support of THON, together, we will make a difference in the lives of children nationwide. Join us in the fight, For The Kids.

THON is a Greek organization that works tirelessly each year to benefit the Penn State Dance Marathon. With the generous support of our large alumni base, we are able to continue the fight against childhood cancer even after graduation. 2018 THON Canning - Last Trip Ever! (Photos)

On Sept. 24, 2017 all of Penn State made their last canning trips ever for THON (read Daily Collegian story about canceling canning trips). With that in mind the Omega Brothers hit the road with members of Sigma Alpha Sorority to raise money FOR THE KIDS!

In 2017, THON™ raised $10,045,478.44 for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, making THON’s total contribution to Four Diamonds more than $146 million since 1977. However, there is still work to be done.

Support THON 2017 - Theta Chi and Their Four Families

Dear Alumnus of the Omega Chapter of Theta Chi,

My name is Jordan Reed and I am the THON chair for Theta Chi for THON 2017. THON is just about a month away, and our brotherhood and partner organization, Tapestry, are excited to support THON and our Four Diamonds Families.

Since Theta Chi and Tapestry paired together 2 years ago, we now have 4 amazing THON families (the Bobby's, the Fait's, the Feliciano's, and the Sicard's) who we are constantly providing support for.  While thankfully all of the children are now off treatment, we still have the incredible opportunity to act as mentors and help them as they grow up and overcome the challenges cancer posed for them. Below you can read short updates about our fraternity's families.

For those who don't know, THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research ― all in pursuit of a cure.

If you are interested in supporting this incredible cause, our brothers Frank Donato and Brennan Bench as they dance for 46 hours straight, and most importantly our THON families, please consider donating BY CLICKING HERE.

L&R,
Jordan Reed
Spring '16

Bobby Family:

Many of the recent alumni have gotten to be very close with AJ Bobby and were instrumental in providing him support as he battled his cancer.  We are happy to say that AJ is currently doing amazing and loving life!  We are in constant contact with AJ, as well as his mom Amanda, and his twin sisters, Annabelle and Alexis.  Over the past year we’ve visited them numerous times for soccer games and they really are a family full of stars!  It’s amazing to see how much they have grown and matured over the past few years and we can’t wait to continue this journey with them in the future!

Fait Family:

The Fait family is Theta Chi’s most recent Family pairing which happened just before THON 2015.  Little Leah is a constant ball of energy and an absolute sweetheart. Some of our best THON memories with Leah were last year during THON with her jumping through the stands, “marrying” people, and using about a million stickers on brother’s faces.  Her limitless energy is the reason we THON.

Liz Gordon (Sicard) Family:

The Liz Sicard family is a perfect example of just how diverse the THON community is. Liz was diagnosed with cancer at age 21, all while raising her 2 year old daughter as well. As of now, Liz is cancer free and about to have another child in January 2017! While it is very difficult for Liz to come up for THON since her move to Georgia a couple years ago, we still stay very involved in her life. Tapestry often has Skype dates with her and makes sure to keep her up to date with everything we are doing as well! She is the perfect example of someone who has battled through so much but came out smiling on the other end.

Jada Feliciano Family:

The Feliciano family has been paired with Tapestry since 2006, so they have really been able to see how the family has grown and changed over the past 10 years. Though there have been a variety of family issues that have occurred, THON has always stood as a way to bring everyone together.  We have been blessed to see Jada and her little sister Jailynn grow up and thrive since Jada’s diagnosis and can’t wait to see where they go in the future!
