Alumni Ceremony

On Thursday, May 1st, 2008, the undergraduate brotherhood joined by alumnus brothers Dick Jones '60, Bob Sorisio '61, and Bill Hertrick '04 held the Spring 2008 alumni ceremony.

After dining on Baked Ziti, Chicken Parmesean, salad, and rolls catered from Town and Country, the brothers in attendance wished graduating brother Andrew Bott a fond farewell from his undergraduate excursions. As Brother Bott was reminded, Theta Chi is for life, and the contributions he makes over the next 300 years of his natural life will always be valued and accepted graciously. The graduating brothers not in attendance for various other reasons included: Eric Forner, Jeff Kranzel, Max Staplin, and Jimmy Surdoval.

We wish all five of our graduating brothers all the best, and hope that they can continue to keep Theta Chi a priority for the future.

This past weekend the undergraduate brothers of Theta Chi, Omega Chapter participated in an entire brotherhood retreat at Stone Valley Recreational Center in Huntingdon County. This was the first retreat that has been held in quite some time, and it was a huge success!

Penn State’s Blue-White game is not only an opportunity to see the Lions warm up for the upcoming season, but a chance to visit Happy Valley and Omega Chapter. With the first-ever concert in Beaver Stadium, your choice of baseball games, and a great opportunity to meet up with your fellow brothers, this Blue-White weekend is a can’t-miss event.

We will be holding our annual Founder's Day meeting at 5pm on Saturday (April 19th). there will be a barbeque and picnic at the house during and after the meeting for brothers, family and friends.

With the Alumni Work Weekend come and gone, one can only ask: When will the next one be? The weekend of March 1st went off without a hitch. We repainted the entire Alter room (aka Living Room) and entrance hallway (including the stairwell going up to the 2nd floor) a lovely two tone color combination of Barefoot Beach and Country Biege. For all of you non-paint enthusiasts out there, we painted the first floor mostly a light cappuccino-esque khaki (Barefoot Beach) with a the floor boards, doorways being white (Country Biege). - click here to read more.

Golf courses have been reserved for the 27th Annual Theta Chi Open.

The Open will be played on Friday, May 2nd at Shoregate Country Club (11 AM 1st tee time) and Saturday's round will be played at Sand barren's Country Club (10:30 AM 1st tee time).

We held the event at the IM fields by the stadium again, and had 22 teams participate (mostly Greek, but some independent). At the end of the day we raised $1760 for the Make-A-Wish and had a good time as well.

The Norwich Housing Corporation will be holding their biannual meeting in State College, Pennsylvania November 16 - 17, 2007. As customary, The NHC Board of Directors we would like to invite all Theta Chi alumni in the State College area to an alumni luncheon Saturday, November 17th.

After the luncheon there will be a meeting at the chapter house about the future of the chapter and buying back the house.

Recently the company that takes care of our database, donations and newsletters printed and mailed out a Omegaphone that was not ready to be mailed (dated May 2007). The Alumni Corporation wasn't charged for the printing and mailing of this Omegaphone.

We are currently working on the final version of the Omegaphone (dated June 2007) to be mailed out in the next week or so.

Proposed By-Law Amendments

As part of the on-going restructuring of the Alumni Board, an update to the By-Laws has been proposed.

The proposed changes bring the Alumni Board and the alumni coproration into line with current issues and needs. The current by-laws were too restricting and did not allow for quick decisions on pressing issues facing the Chapter. The proposed changes will make the Board more nimble in making decisions that need to be handled in a timely manner.
