Alumni Corner - Timothy Uhrich '09

OX: Why did you join Theta Chi?
Timothy Uhrich: The brothers really made me feel welcome and at home, I loved the idea of a home not a dorm, and I wanted something more out of my college experience. Best decision I have ever made.

OX: What is your favorite Theta Chi memory or story?
TU: Bigger or Better is probably one of my favorite stories. We played a game all over state college one year during our pledge trip activities where we started with a teething ring and had to convince people to keep trading us stuff that was bigger or better without money, making phone calls, or picking up free stuff. The stuff we came back with after 2 hours made for longer stories than the length of the game.

OX: What kind of influence has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
TU: Developed leadership, taught me how to balance my life, and got me involved in some of the activities that are the passion of my life.

OX: What is your nickname? How did you get it? Did anyone in particular give it to you?
TU: Too many names, too many stories.

OX: Did you live in the house? If so, who were your roommates? Tell us about a memorable time with them.
TU: James Patterson, Jared Metzger. Metzger and I lived in the Penn State Room on the first floor spring of sophomore year after our room got water damaged over winter break (o the fun with construction). That semester is legendary. James Patterson is a good friend but we made terrible roommates.

OX: Where did your pledge class go on their bolt?  What brothers did you take?  Any funny stories you can tell?
TU: Got skipped when I was a new member. Always got involved in the planning for trips including our caravan trip to the curve game, the flight 93 memorial/scavenger hunt, theta chi olympics, and pledge trips to other chapters.

OX: With whom do you stay in contact? And is there anyone with whom you’ve lost touch that you would like to find?
TU: Lots of brothers +2 or -2 years. Trying hard to stay in contact with brothers since the re-org. Make the extra effort to meet all the new members each semester. Really would love to meet any brothers who work in higher education for some advice and direction on my career path.

OX: What other activities or organizations were you involved with during your college days?
TU: Off Campus Student Union, IFC, Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society, Greek Week Captain

OX: Tell us about your family. Have you married? Do you have children?
TU: Both parents teach middle school in Cumberland Valley District. Older sister just married and settling in northeastern york area. Younger sister is a senior in high school looking at Millersville for college. I have an adorable 3 year old niece, Cecelia, who keeps me on my toes.

OX: What do you do for a living?
TU: Currently employed by Theta Chi Fraternity as a leadership and education consultant (i.e. a field rep for those older brothers).

OX: What hobbies do you enjoy?
TU: What free time. I love volleyball, skiing, hiking, soccer, football, and frisbee but, sadly, there seems to be less and less time for them.

OX: What are your goals for the next few years?
TU: I hope to work in Student Affairs at the University level after I complete a graduate degree and finish two years on the road as an LEC.

OX: What organizations are you involved with in your community?
TU: Knights of Columbus, Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society.
