OX: Why
did you join Theta Chi?
Robert Scavello: Cool guys, diverse crowd, down to
earth, best parties.
OX: What is your favorite
Theta Chi memory or story?
RS: Not exactly a fond memory but a funny
story when told correctly. One brother confronts another brother about
not paying back room and board after taking over as Treasurer. The second
brother tells the first to get the heck out of his room. The first brother
agrees, but not before stubbing out his cigarette on the second brothers
bed (while he is in it). Again, you have to hear it told.
OX: What kind of influence
has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
RS: Was a great place to learn leadership, teamwork,
coalition building, competition and how to pick up women (the first
4 lessons
serve my well in my profession, the last one I never really learned all
that well).
OX: What is your nickname?
How did you get it? Did anyone in particular give it to you?
RS: Never really had one.
OX: Did you live in the
house? If so, who were your roommates? Tell us about a memorable time
with them.
RS: Yes, but had to "marry" little sister "Mud
House" Melanie to get out of my dorm contract to do it. Was supposed
to have mailed the marriage certificate, but PSU housing never followed
up. My roommates were Joe Kidda, for a semester, and Scott Taylor, for
a year. Most memorable time in the room with Scott, was when Bernie hooked
up with "Dave Yohannan."
OX:
Where did your pledge class go on their pledge bolt/trip? What brothers
did you take? Any funny stories you can tell?
RS: We went to Ohio University and took kidnapped
Rick James and Dave Latham. Scott "Doowop" Mayhew got a girlfriend
(who turned out to be Rick James' little sister, Heather) and then
fell in love with a crayon. John McHenry busted his head open while
trying to steal a license plate. Imported the 5:15 Club from the Ohio
U. Chapter - Beam Aboard!
OX: With whom do you stay in contact?
RS: Alan Lauder, Scott Taylor, Dave Yohannan, Jamie
Koppersmith, Randy Siegman, Joe Kopetsky, Bob Kramer, Anthony Panichelli,
Owen Fishman (cool thing about the last two is that they had graduated
before I pledged), and several others in the Philly area.
OX: And
is there anyone with whom you’ve lost touch that you would like
to find?
RS: Jim Fox and Mike Noble.
OX: What other activities
or organizations were you involved with during your college days?
RS: Liberal Arts Student Council.
OX: Tell us about your
family. Have you married? Do you have children?
RS: Finally married after 15 years of bachelorhood after
college (had to keep working on the pick lessons from Theta Chi). No
children yet, only married less than two years.
OX:
What do you do for a living?
RS: Management Consultant with IBM serving the US
Air Force in DC (Pentagon).
OX:
What hobbies do you enjoy?
RS: Golf, running, reading, Eagles and PSU Football.
OX: What are your goals
for the next few years?
RS: Make "Partner" in my "Firm",
start the family, buy a new house, lower my handicap, travel (maybe
not in that order).
